Red card proves costly as Neath are swept aside
RGC enhanced their Premiership title claims with this crushing win over 14man Neath.
Fly-half Danny Cross booted an early penalty for them while Neath made life difficult for themselves with a number of reckless tackles, which resulted in a yellow card for Jon Barley and a red for Ryan Thomas.
Dan Owen and then Robin Williams – after a surging run from Tim Grey – also went over for tries before the break, both converted by Cross, as RGC led 17-0.
Neath got their first and only points on the board courtesy of an Ed Howley penalty on 47 minutes, but the Gogs resumed their dominance and sealed the points 12 minutes later when Andrew Williams crashed over under the posts.
That left Jacob Botica with the simple task of chipping the extras.
Another outstanding break led to former Wales U18 international Owen notching his second of the match on 74 minutes, and a rampant spell brought another score on 75 when Harri Evans went over, thanks to a blistering run from Tiaan Loots. Botica successfully kicked both conversions. Dion Jones put the exclamation point on proceedings after fine approach play from Evans on 76 minutes for RGC.
There was still time for more tries from Tom Hughes, Afon Bagshaw and Jones in the closing stages.
