Swansea celebrate as Wizards worry over Andrews injury

- ■ By PAUL HOPKINS

SWANSEA recorded backto-back victories for the first time since their return to the Premiership with an impressive display against Aberavon.

The match began on a worrying note as Wizards winger Steff Andrews was stretchered off the field with a suspected broken leg.

It was Swansea who took the lead against the run of play through an Owen Howe penalty goal.

Then, Whites lock Ben Davies collected a scrappy line-out and the Wizards were penalised for failing to roll away from the tackle.

A quick tap penalty by Matt Aubrey sent Gareth Walters over for a try.

Howe then kicked two penalty goals despite his side being reduced to 14 men following a yellow card for Gareth Rees for a cynical tap down.

The Wizards were not finished, though, and a powerful maul gifted Jacob Flynn an easy platform to race in and score unopposed in the corner.

Aberavon were penalised for entering a maul from the side and Howe stepped up to kick Swansea 12 points ahead.

The game wasn’t without a moment of controversy as a member of the Swansea coaching staff prevented a quick line-out, giving James Garland another chance to find touch deep inside the Swansea 22.

The resulting move summed up Aberavon’s fortunes, though, as it came to nothing when Ieuan Davies dropped a pass. Star man Owen Howe – Swansea
