Glasgow made to pay for lineout failings

- ■ By DECLAN ROONEY

GLASGOW coach Dave Rennie lamented his side’s misfiring set-piece as Munster inflicted just a second defeat on Warriors this season to narrow the gap at the top of Conference A to 12 points.

Tries from Niall Scannell and James Cronin helped Munster to the win, but a suspected broken arm for Chris Cloete is a significant setback for Johann van Graan’s side.

A try from George Horne after the restart helped Glasgow reduce the 13-0 interval deficit, but Cronin was sharpest to a loose ball to score the winner.

Rennie said: “We have got a 12-point lead with about five games to go. Our fate is in our own hands.

“The lineout is our own issue. We had three over throws without a Munster player in the air.”

An early Tyler Bleyendaal penalty got Munster up and running, before Scannell scored off the back of a 24th minute rolling maul. A Bleyendaal conversion and another penalty meant Munster were in control at half-time.

But with wind advantage Glasgow restarted brightly. Adam Hastings kicked a penalty before Lee Jones’s break paved the way for Horne to score. Munster responded and Cronin scored nine minutes into the half to give Munster the cushion they needed.

Van Graan said; “We played a top side, probably the competition’s form team, so I’m very happy with how we performed.”
