Ford bags four as Quins continue fine home form

- ■ By CARL FIELD

WING Dale Ford helped himself to four tries as Carmarthen made it a perfect ten on home soil this season and closed to within a point of leaders Merthyr.

In a frenetic opening, it was actually Bargoed who scored first on two minutes through wing Duane Dyer, with fly-half Calum Jones converting.

However, the Quins replied almost immediately through Ford, although the conversion was missed by fly-half Steff Marshall.

Having been caught cold initially, the Quins began to find their stride and took the lead after 15 minutes with their second try scored by No.8 Lawrence Reynolds, with Marshall comfortably converting.

And three minutes later that lead had extended to 17-7 with Ford crashing over, although again the score went unconverted.

With the Quins now firmly in the ascendency, their bonus point was in the bag after 28 minutes and was sealed by Ford who touched down for his hat-trick after a great initial burst from centre Jack Price. Marshall failed to convert.

Jones booted a penalty just after the break for Bargoed, but Ford was over again on 50 minutes – moving him to within one more of equalling the club record for most tries in a Premiership game. Marshall’s conversion fell short as the hosts moved into a 27-10 lead.

Replacement Scott Lloyd added a sixth try on 66 minutes, easily converted by Jac Wilson. Star man Dale Ford - Carmarthen
