Allen helps Bedwas run riot against struggling Bridgend

- ■ By HOWARD EVANS

BEDWAS ran in seven tries to take their tally to 19 and three victories in an eightday spell as they crushed hapless Bridgend in the Principality Premiership.

They followed their 40-point win at Neath and a further 40 points during a midweek Welsh Cup victory at Beddau with another five-star display.

Bridgend hung on until just before half-time when a third Bedwas touchdown took them to the break at 17-7 before they upped the pace in the second spell. Bedwas had a new young star in lock forward Gareth Allen, who came up from their second team to play splendidly and cap it all by scoring the final try one minute from full-time.

Bedwas opened with a well-taken try from fullback Mike Hathaway and soon scored again through their flanker Craig Hudd with Stefan Jones neatly converting.

Bridgend hit back as fullback Joe Scrivens crossed for Ryan Evans to convert, but scrum-half Tom Rowlands then slipped over for Bedwas just moments before the interval.

Half-backs Jones and Rowlands played splendidly, though Bedwas wasted at least five more scoring chances but Pat Lewis scored and then replacement wing Matthew John grabbed a brace to take his career total to 55 tries in league rugby.

Bridgend had one late attack that saw lock Kieran Martin cross and Evans converted before Allen ended a fine performance with his first league try. Star man Gareth Allen - Bedwas
