Top talent from tier two moving up for shot at Premiership

-

WORCESTER have signed three of the top stars from the Championship for next season.

Doncaster scrum-half Michael Heaney, London Scottish hooker Isaac Miller and Jersey full-back Scott van Breda have all signed one-year contracts.

Ex-Scotland U20 cap Miller, 23, and ex-Ireland U20 No.9 Heaney, 27, are English-qualified, while South African van Breda has Super Rugby experience with the Stormers.

It takes Worcester’s tally of new players for next season to six, following the signings of Cornell du Preez, Ashley Beck and Callum Black. Du Preez’s Edinburgh team-mate, flyhalf Duncan Weir, should also complete a move at the end of the season.

“Michael is a talented player with an excellent understanding of the game,” said Worcester boss Alan Solomons. “He will add further depth in the key position of scrum-half.

“Isaac is a promising young hooker who has excelled in the Championship this season. Scott is a versatile rugby player and a very good goal-kicker. It’s a great opportunity for him to test himself at the top level.”

Northampton have signed prop Will Davis from Championship club Ealing for next season.

The 27-year-old loosehead won the National One title with Ealing in 2014-15 and has helped them rise to second in tier two. Davis will boost Northampton’s stock of props after Kieran Brookes announced he would be leaving the club.

“It’s an honour to be joining a club with so much history at the highest level,” Davis said.

Meanwhile Wales U20 lock Alex Dombrandt will join Harlequins at the end of the season from Cardiff Met University.

Director of rugby John Kingston said: “Alex is an outstanding talent who can play anywhere in the back five of the scrum. I’m delighted he has chosen us given the number of clubs who wanted to secure his services.”
