Caldy seal their Nat One status
A GLORIOUS day with stunning rugby from Caldy confirmed their National One status for another year.
They thrived in the conditions to pick apart an underperforming Blackheath, scoring six tries any side would be proud of.
Nick Royle, who bagged another hat-trick, was once again sublime in his speed and finishing ability.
His second was pivotal and arguably the most eye-catching. A smart move started by Ben Jones was well-executed and Royle, who collected the final pass from the floor, beat his opposite man by dinking the ball round him stylishly.
His try took Caldy into a commanding 30-6 lead securing the bonus point. A perfect response from an upturn in performance from Blackheath.
With much focus on the pack this season, the backs proved their worth and reinforced the flexibility Caldy have in their ranks. Blackheath simply could not stop the Caldy pack either, nor could they stop the slippery JJ Dickinson from breaking through to score yet another try.
Blackheath raised their game late on, with Alex Pickersgill finishing Joseph Tarrant’s move.
Caldy though rose to the occasion and confirming another season in Nat One.
