Stapley double sees the Students through

- By OSCAR MORTIMER

JACK Stapley scored two tries as Loughborough Students eased past Bishop’s Stortford.

The visitors were first to score in the sixth minute through Robert Duff.

Loughborough struck back immediately off the restart though with captain Andrew Boyce extending his body over the ruck and placing the ball down to give Loughborough a score.

Owen Waters’ conversion veered just wide.

Loughborough then caught a break in the form of a free kick on the half way line in the 26th minute.

Stapley picked the ball out of the air on the fringe, and then passed it to Charlie Thacker, who charged for the line to score.

Waters was denied another kick by the post, but Loughborough had taken a 10-7 lead.

The Students were quick to stamp their authority in the second half, extending their lead with a Waters penalty.

Minutes later, Oskar Hirskyj-Douglas dived for the line as Loughborough built a convincing lead.

The game then entered a sizeable period of deadlock before hosts Loughborough broke it.

Stapley got his second of the afternoon when he placed the ball down in the far corner and this time Waters made no mistake with the conversion.

Bishop’s Stortford managed to snatch a try in the very last play of the game through Joss Linney but it was too little too late for the visitors.
