Late Hamilton try offers OAs hope
A TRY five minutes from time by Ross Hamilton clinched a vital victory for Old Albanian in their battle to avoid relegation.
In a dramatic end to an eight-try thriller at College Meadow in which the lead changed hands six times, the lock crashed over from close range to secure the win.
OEs were left to regret a sluggish start in which they found themselves 130 down in the opening quarter after a try from Albanian flanker Alex Post and two penalties and conversion from flyhalf Tom Bednall.
The home side fought back through their forwards to score two tries in quick succession both coming from driven lineouts by Ben King and Nathan Morris.
But the visitors were to have the last word before the interval when full back Nick Foster was driven over for 20-14.
On the bak of a dominant scrum, OEs started the second period strongly.
Fly-half Tom White cut the deficit with a penalty and then set-up a try for wing James Golledge to give OEs the lead.
The two sides swapped tries in a frenetic final quarter with outstanding Albanian flanker Harry Elbrow forcing his way from a scrum before OEs scrum-half Ollie Claxton replied with a wellworked try. OEs led by two until Hamilton’s late intervention.
