Lightning start gets Field beyond Tigers
AN incredible first-half display paved the way for Huddersfield’s win despite their failure to score a single point in the second half.
Huddersfield led 31-0 at the break after scoring five tries, but the second 40 belonged to Sheffield as they scored ten unanswered points.
Second row Austen Thompson opened the scoring after just four minutes with a penalty try, after Tom Farrell was sent to the sin bin - the hosts extending their lead to 12-0 soon after.
Centre Tom Owen and flanker Ben Morrill then went over within four minutes of each other to put Huddersfield 24-0 to the good after an incredible first 16 minutes of action.
Further yellow cards for Sheffield’s Frank Wragg and Huddersfield captain Alex Battye extended the first half beyond 50 minutes with Thompson’s second try eventually seeing the half brought to a close with the hosts 31-0 to the good.
The second half was a different story with Huddersfield unable to add to their score and Sheffield replying with two tries of their own.
First, Jamie Broadley went over on 44 minutes to get Sheffield on the scoreboard with Tom Coates following him over soon after to further reduce the deficit.
The visitors were unable to capitalise further though and were, in the end, heavily beaten in this local derby.
