Clifford out with hamstring horror op
QUINS’ miserable season took a turn for the worse as director of rugby John Kingston reported that Jack Clifford will be out for the season.
England international No.8 Clifford was helped off early on. Kingston said: “He’s torn his hamstring off the bone and is out for the season. He will need an operation.”
Clifford had just returned from a five-month absence with a shoulder injury.
Gloucester head coach, Johan Ackermann felt it had been a tough encounter.
He said: “For us it was a good ending to an arm-wrestle as they showed a lot of fight.
“Our decision-making in the backline was much better but we lost a bit of patience at times.
“We’ve still got two avenues alive to try and get European qualification.
“We’ve got Newcastle Falcons next weekend in the Challenge Cup semi-final and we know what they will bring as they won here last time.”
Kingston said: “We were stunned by the level of performance last week so I knew there would be a reaction today as the boys are proud of this club.
“It was on a knife-edge when it was only 16-9 but we just made too many errors.”
