Six of the best as Merthyr romp to another success
Swansea ........ 10 Merthyr .......... 45
MERTHYR ran in six tries to defeat Swansea and give their title hopes another boost.
Luke Griffiths kicked Swansea into an early lead, before Louis Jones earned a penalty after the home side’s defence killed the ball.
Matthew Jarvis kicked to touch and Jones powered over the whitewash from an unstoppable maul.
Adam Hoskins sneaked possession out of the maul and a well worked move set up a try for Kyle Evans, who strode through a gap in midfield to cross the whitewash.
Then Ed Siggery collected a lineout and Matthew Dwyer was driven over for his side’s third try.
And on the stroke of half-time Alexander Howman plucked a high ball out of the air and sent Merthyr on another attack.
A clever chip through was picked up by Evans, who touched down for his second try and a bonus point for Merthyr.
Arron Pinches showed superb pace to break through the middle and he found Siggery in support. Quick ball out of the ruck saw Matthew Jarvis chip through and collect to score a fifth try.
Rhys Williams grabbed a consolation score for Swansea, but two late tries sealed a deserved victory for Merthyr. First, Howman scored the pick of the tries when he took a long floated pass on the wing and sprinted home to score from halfway, before Dwyer touched down late on.
