Ystrad in charge after win over big rivals
Welsh Division One round-up
YSTRAD Rhondda took control of the One East Central title race with a 29-18 victory over rivals Glamorgan Wanderers.
Rhys Truelove inspired Ystrad with a try, penalty and three conversions. Aaron Clarke, Derwyn Coleman and Cole Swanack added further tries.
The Wanderers hit back through Cameron Gibbons and Philip Hero while Luke Fish kicked eight points but they couldn’t prevent a second consecutive defeat to Ystrad, who now lead the table by four points. In One North, Nant
Conwy edged closer to the league title with a 43-13 win over Ruthin.
Jack Moriarty and Carwyn Ellis were both at the double and were joined on the scoresheet by Sion Pringle, Rob Parry and Arthur Lennon, who also kicked three conversions.
But champions Pwllheli showed they are willing to fight all the way after humiliating relegated
Colwyn Bay 141-10. Robin Hughes and Deio Brunelli led the way with four-try hauls while Nick Butterworth, John Pugh and Owain Williams landed hat-tricks.
Osian Parry-Jones added a further two while Geraint Parry, Ellis Griffith, Harri Moncrieffe and Ieuan Williams, who also added 13 conversions.
Brynmawr extended their lead at the top of One East to 14 points with a 42-14 win over Pontypool United.
Josh Congreve, Ifan Phillips, Dan Butler, Nathan Preece and Geraint Langdon all went over while the latter kicked an additional 17 points. Second-placed
Brecon lost 40-37 at Nelson. It’s as you were in the race for the One West Central title after Maesteg Quins and Bridgend Athletic both picked up bonus-point wins.
Gowerton’s slim One West title hopes took a hit with a damaging 26-20 loss at Gorseinon. Felinfoel capitalised with a 27-5 win over Aberystwyth.
