Visitors in Luc as victory ensures survival

- By NICK DOYLE

LUCTONIANS went to Cross Green needing a win to ensure their survival, and got it but missed out on a bonus point.

They made the initial breakthrough, catching Otley offside on their 22, Sam Boxhall putting the ball between the posts after three minutes.

The home side had their chances, Alex Beaumont coming close in the corner. However, after steady a build-up by Luctonians, Francis Kelly weaved his way under the posts with Boxhall adding the conversion.

Otley reduced the deficit after Jack Scott-Paul got the ball out to Beaumont, Joe Rowntree converting.

Good interplay by Luctonians from within their own half saw them extending lead with Thomas Jones going over after 37 minutes.

In the second period, Otley reduced the deficit with a penalty after a high tackle.

The hosts were making too many mistakes and were pinned into their 22 after not releasing.

They did get the ball back but lost it, still in their 22, Jones again making them pay with a try and Boxhall adding the conversion after 49 minutes.

Luctonians continued to press for the fourth try, and for the remainder of the game stayed in the home side’s half.

Both teams tried to force the game but as the game got more frenetic towards the end, neither side could capitalise.
