Samurai win final two legs to secure series title
SAMURAI Rugby retained their title in the Super Sevens Series at Ealing Trailfinders last weekend.
Samurai and the British Army were the two main contenders for the 2018 Champions title heading into the final leg
The Super Sevens Series is the most prestigious elite 7s competition in the UK, with established invitational teams battling it out alongside three international squads in a four-leg competition.
The British Army won the first two legs at Bury St. Edmunds and Maidenhead, but Samurai came out on top in the Chester 7s which left them shooting out for the title in Ealing.
Guildford Bears sprang an upset in the pool leaving the Army in second place and facing a quarter-final against Samurai.
The Army took an early lead, but some poor discipline let Samurai take the win 19-17 with seconds left on the clock.
In the other half of the draw, BLK Hurricanes hung on to defeat Apache 20- 19.
The semi finals saw BLK inflict a 40-7 defeat on IQ and Samurai had to work hard again to come back against Ramblin Jesters 15-5.
In the Plate final Jamaica found their form to beat an ever-improving England Students 38-9 to send them on their way to the World Cup in San Francisco with a trophy.
So in a repeat of Chester final, BLK Hurricanes took an early lead but Samurai once again came from behind to take the fourth leg and the series title with a 24-12 victory.
