Lions are tamed as Carleton does the damage
TWO tries apiece from Tom Carleton and Tom Grimes helped Fylde to a convincing blowout victory over Peterborough Lions after an impressive display saw them control proceedings from almost start to finish.
In what was domination from the outset, Peterborough failed to find their footing as Fylde raced into a 14-0 lead.
That came after tries from Carleton and Sam Dugdale, with a penalty miss from Peterborough fly-half Ben Young proving costly as Fylde led 28-0 at the break when Carleton dotted down his second and Grimes grabbed a first..
As the second half began, Fylde picked up where they left off as Henry Hadfield ran in and the conversion made it 350.
They didn’t slow down from there as Grimes later added his second try to make it 40-0 and compound the Lions’ misery..
In the end, Peterborough managed a consolation try thanks to Nico Defeo.
However, that proved to be all they could muster as Fylde responded with one final score from replacement Luke Fowden to wrap up a near perfect performance.
In truth it could, and probably should, have been more for Fylde with two handling errors letting the Lions off the hook.
But on a day in which Peterborough struggled with execution and penalties, they left with their heads down having been completely outplayed.
