Hat-trick hero Riley lifts Sedgley to win

- By STEFFAN JAMES

SEDGLEY Park won a tentry thriller against Sheffield Tigers, although the visitors did come away with two bonus points.

The home side got on the scoreboard first with an unconverted try from Matthew Riley but Sheffield hit back minutes later with two tries of their own through centre James Broadley and scrum-half Ryan Holmes.

An unconverted try from winger Leon Simpson and captain Riley crossing for his second of the game then put Sedgley Park 1712 ahead on 20 minutes.

The visitors roared back five minutes before halftime though, through winger Henry Packard, but this lead was short-lived as Riley completed a first-half hat-trick by dotting down.

Sheffield did manage to hit back just before the interval with a penalty from fly-half Joseph Duffy.

Sedgley Park were reduced to 14 men in the first five minutes of the second half with Nathan Rushton going to the bin and Sheffield took full advantage in a crucial period of the game to cross the whitewash first through replacement Thomas Taylor-Dawes.

Going into the last quarter of the game, the home side were reduced to 14 men with captain Riley sent to the bin.

However, Sedgley made light of that and finished off their victory by scoring two final tries through prop Benjamin Black and winger Andrew Riley.
