Jones back to haunt Bedwas as Cardiff recover

- By JAY BAYFORD Star man Joseph Scrivens – Bedwas

CARDIFF made it three wins in a row as they came from behind to beat Bedwas in difficult conditions at the Bridge Field.

Heavy rain and strong winds added to the challenge for both sides, but it was Bedwas who started stronger as full-back Joseph Scrivens fired over a penalty in under three minutes.

Scrivens was also influential in the opening try.

His quick-tap penalty led to wing Adam Williams going over just a few minutes later.

Former Bridgend Ravens fly half Scrivens added the extras from the tee.

The Blue and Blacks recovered well from their bad start, with Steffan Jones, who made the switch from Bedwas to Cardiff in the summer, kicking a penalty midway through the first half.

Jones, who has been effective from the tee this season, missed the chance to close the gap further but redeemed himself with a close-range penalty on the stroke of half time. Cardiff continued their revival in the second half with waves and waves of pressure.

And that finally told when they were awarded a penalty try, with Ellis Evans sent to the sin-bin for Bedwas.

Cardiff then went down to 14 men after an illegal tackle from James Murphy.

But that didn’t stop them sealing the win with a third Jones penalty, despite a late yellow card for Rory Pitman.
