Chase still on to catch leaders Scunny

Midlands Premier

-

THIRD met fourth as

Bridgnorth and Luctonians, clashed, and it was Bridgnorth who edged a tight encounter 15-7.

Tries from Will Bishops and Luis Evitt put the hosts 15-0 ahead at half-time and although Luctonians responded through Charlie Meredith’s converted try, that would prove the only score of the second half as Bridgnorth held on.

They remain third though, after wins for the top two, Scunthorpe beating Sandbach 15-8, whilst

Newport were involved in a thrilling contest, coming out on top 39-32 at Bournville.

Like Bridgnorth, Scunthorpe did all their work in the first half, Sam Morgan with their opening try, and despite Jack Leach pulling Sandbach level, Ollie Cole’s score gave the hosts a 15-5 half-time lead.

A Sandbach penalty early in the second half would be the final points, as the leaders withstood heavy pressure, although their lead was trimmed to a single point as Newport claimed all five points in their success.

The bonus point was secured by half-time as they led 24-20, and Newport went on to open up a 14point lead, before late scores secured Bournville two bonus points. Broadstreet moved above Luctonians into fourth as they thrashed Lichfield 71-10.

A dominant first half saw the home side power 51 points to the good by halftime, and they finished a one-sided contest after the break.

Syston failed to turn a 24-point lead into a first win of the season as Derby staged a fine comeback to win 29-39.

Four unanswered tries put Syston in control, but McGrath Van Wyk pulled Derby back to 24-5 at halftime, before tries from Luke Wilmott, Callum Slater and Josh Bingham

levelled the scores, Gabriel Kajdy and Martin Kent sealing victory for the visitors.

Sheffield secured a bonus point in their 24-3 over Nuneaton, Jason Hignell’s first-half try added to by Sean Casey, Danny Rylance and Rob Conville.

A dominant first half saw Doncaster Phoenix win 43-18 at Burton in the day’s final action, Doncaster 36-3 ahead at half-time, then resisting the secondhalf fightback.
