Cards cost auntonas indiscipline takes over

- By KEITH BROOKING

THIS clash of the Titans’ sharp backs against the power of the Rams forwards lived up to expectations.

But it was Taunton’s discipline that probably cost them the game with two yellow cards and a red.

The game was end to end, with high-tempo, highenergy rugby.

Rams director of rugby Gary Reynolds said: “For the neutral, this was a great game to watch. For the partisan, it was heart in the mouth all the way to the end of a game that was a great advert for the division and probably for the league above as well.”

Rams started the brighter, taking the game to the Titans, and were rewarded with a penalty try as a maul was gathering speed towards the line.

Taunton were reduced to 14 but suddenly kicked into life and scored two tries while a man down, both of which were scored by their wingers, first Oscar Kolowski, then Ollie Rice as the Taunton backs started to create space.

It was something that didn’t go unnoticed by Reynolds. He said: “I thought the Titans backs were fantastic and their movement on the ball was excellent. We were fortunate our forwards managed to get on top in the second half and we held on in the end, even with some silly penalties.”

Taunton extended their lead when they went back to the full complement.

Nick Mason went over before Rice scored his second. With Gary Kingdom converting two of the tries, it was 24-7 with less than ten minutes remaining of the half.

The Rams forwards then flexed their muscle again and were rewarded with a try for hooker Ben Henderson. With Alex Seers
