Students upset the odds in thriller
PERHAPS the result of the weekend came at Epinal Way as Loughborough Students produced the performance of their season so far to down high-flying Chinnor in a rip-roaring match.
The home side got off to the perfect start through Thibaud Flament’s early try but Chinnor soon levelled in a high-tempo match.
On 15 minutes Students’ second came as skipper Victor Keunen touched down but Chinnor’s Greg Goodfellow then kicked a penalty and Craig Holland followed it up with a try.
Holland then intercepted for his second but centre Harry Priestner got his name on the scoresheet and Charlie Reed’s penalty made it 24-22 to the hosts.
Chinnor fought back through the resolute defence with another successful try and conversion as the lead once again see-sawed, 2924 to the visitors at half-time.
The pace didn’t slow down after the restart as Loughborough wing Will Attfield got in on the act, followed up minutes later by lock Cameron Boon.
Chinnor grabbed two more tries either side of Oskar Hirskyj-Douglas’ score for the hosts and Loughborough led 45-43 – Holland taking back the lead one final time for Chinnor before Reed’s penalty won the day.
