Classy Collins dazzles as Sedgley soar
SOUTH Leicester were on the receiving end of a firsthalf blitz as Sedgley Park Tigers scored five times before the interval to boost their promotion chances at Park Lane.
Prop Daniel Maher and star man Stephen Collins crossed in quick succession to put the hosts in command inside 12 minutes, with fly-half Collins adding only the first conversion before adding a penalty after 15 minutes.
South Leicester were pinned back and unable to respond as winger Jamie Harrison added the hosts’ third before Maher and Andrew Riley added further scores, securing the try-scoring bonus-point inside the opening 30 minutes.
Collins added all three conversions to give the hosts a healthy 36-0 lead.
The visitors did get on the scoreboard before the
break as No.8 Dan Ireland powered over but the conversion was missed.
Sedgley added a sixth try after the restart as replacement forward Thomas Coe scored with Collins again slotting the conversion, 43-5.
However, this would be the hosts’ final points of the game as South Leicester rallied, scoring tries through Benjamin Palmer, Rhoderick McNaughton and Thomas Cheney to ensure they travelled home with at least a try-scoring bonus point.
Palmer added two of the conversions to complete the scoring, but the game was long gone.
