Chester back on track with tight win

- By ANDREW SMITH

A STIRRING second-half display saw Chester claim their tenth win of the campaign.

Bouncing back from last week’s first defeat at home, the visitors came from behind after the break with two crucial tries from David Ford and Tom Foden.

In a highly competitive encounter, Huddersfield were destabilised with yellow cards in both halves which proved decisive. But it was the hosts who controlled the game early on with returning fly-half Chris Johnson pulling the strings. Three well struck penalties gave his side a nine-point advantage midway through the half.

Eight minutes before the break Huddersfield skipper Dickie Piper was binned. From the resulting penalty a catch and drive saw flanker Mike Craven emerge to claim the score with Callum Bennett adding the extras. A further Johnson penalty took the home side in 12-7 ahead.

The visitors hit their stride with No.8 David Ford getting the try and a further yellow card for full-back Tom Hodson piling on more pressure for Huddersfield.

Responding swiftly a well-worked move saw full-back Foden take a crash ball to power under the posts. Johnson reduced the deficit with his fifth penalty but the visitors held on to win.
