Fast-starting Bury too good for Bees
BURY blew bottom-of-thetable Bees away in the opening quarter and never looked back.
The Suffolk side took just three minutes to open their account when the outstanding Cameron Ritchie wriggled free to send flanker Ollie Watson racing over.
Fellow flanker Tom Brown then finished off a fabulous handling move for a second try before outside centre Connor O’ Reilly was sent racing over on the overlap.
Bury full-back Franco Catuogno converted twice to put Bury 19-0 ahead by the 25th minute before Bees finally roused themselves and started to fight back.
Bees’ impressive No.8 Umraan Jadwat punched a huge hole in the Bury defence to send winger Matt Dight racing clear before Matt Spink was driven over to score from a five metre lineout, cutting the deficit to 19-10.
Bees then pressed the self destruct button on the stroke of half-time when a clearance kick was charged down and Ben Leng won the chase with Catuogno converting for a 26-10 lead.
A fifth Bury try soon followed as prop Pat Robinson ripped through Bees fragile defence.
Bees were thrown a lifeline when Bury No.8 Tuidriva Uru was sent off after Zane Raimondi had been shoved over but they could not take advantage.
