Bournemouth finally lose unbeaten start

South West Premier

-

MAIDENHEAD provided the shock of the day as they brought South West Premier table-toppers

Bournemouth back to earth with a 28-16 victory.

Bournemouth had won 11 from 11 going into the games but went behind early when Mark Darlington powered over.

The visitors pulled two penalties back before, from a series of scrums, Dave Cole ran over Maidenhead’s second try.

It got worse for the leaders when Andy Berry crossed the whitewash in the second half to secure the victory.

That allowed Ivybridge to reduce the gap at the top to six points following a 3521 victory over Bracknell.

After suffering a defeat last week, Ivybridge responded by running over five tries, with kicker Billy Pinkus scoring a hat-trick while George Wilson and Jon Morgan also scored.

At the opposite end, Cam McDonald, Sam Gibbons and Elliott Bellman all scored for Bracknell with all three converted.

Barnstaple also kept the pressure on the leaders following a 29-26 victory over Newton Abbot.

Tries for the visitors came courtesy of a Tom Clarke brace and Jake Murphy while the latter was also on form with the boot kicking a host of penalties and conversions. After a run of 11 defeats

Old Patesians finally got

their first victory of the season after scoring five tries against Westonsuper-Mare.

Captain George Angel led the way by scoring a brace with others by James Saunders, Duncan Spurrier, Rob White, Lee Hathaway and Tom Knight.

Basement side Old Pats put on a solid display throughout the tie running over four tries to their opponents two in the first half and then three more tries up the slope in the second half. Elsewhere Exeter University took their fifth victory of the season after running out 28-20 victors over Cambourne.

Luke Mehson and Kas Eelman among the try scorers for the hosts.

Despite their victory, they remain below Brixham, who ran away 37-26 winners over fellow midtable side Exmouth in a thrilling contest.

Finally, Drybrook moved out of the bottom two following a narrow 1210 win over Cleve.
