Debutant stars for Keys as they end winless run

- By JAY BAYFORD Star man Jacob Botica - Cross Keys

CROSS Keys shocked Llandovery at Pandy Park to record their first victory in ten games.

Debutant Jacob Botica was influential as he kicked two conversions and four penalties to guide them to a much-needed league win.

They made a promising start with Dan Babos almost bagging an early try.

Despite missing out on the points, they remained positive and eventually took the lead through the boot of Botica, who claimed 315 points for RGC 1404 in the Principality Premiership last season.

That gave them confidence and they continued to push forward before being rewarded on 21 minutes when Wes Cunliffe was played into space down the left wing.

Botica added the conversion and a second penalty to give Keys a 13-0 lead, but a last-gasp Jack Maynard three-pointer ensured Llandovery got points on the board before the break.

The visitors almost made a dream start to the second half but with plenty of players forward, Srdan Majkic intercepted a pass and set up Dan Babos for Keys’ second try of the game. Botica converted.

Llandovery did manage to break Keys’ resistance with their first try of the game coming from Berian Watkins, with Maynard adding the extras.

Botica kept Keys just out of sight with another two penalties, which sealed the win, despite a late Maynard penalty and Corey Baldwin try for the visitors.
