Grassroots need you!
GREAT letter from Chris Taylor last week, proposing a “Community Game Arrangement” to provide central funding to clubs according to what they're putting into the game – rather than taking out!
Jeff Probyn also made some good points in his piece, referring to the preferential treatment given to the Premiership at the expense of the rest of the game as being at the root of the Union's woes, and describing the game as having morphed into a business that uses the amateur sport to generate funds to pay the inflated wages of the professional game.
With many clubs dependent on a shrinking number of aging volunteers, no-one should rely on this situation being sustainable without improved support for grassroots clubs from HQ.
Many of us need help with upgrading outdated facilities and others may well, in the not too distant future need to think about paying outsiders to perform roles currently handled by volunteers.
But it needs more of us to register our concerns, so, if you are associated with an active community club and agree with what Chris and I have written, get typing!
