Rugby must rediscover its identity

- JOHN TWOSE Somerset

RUGBY needs to look seriously at its reason for being. We are not soccer (now resembles contactless sport) or American Football (body armour).

Let’s hear about sidesteps, dummies, rap rounds, being fleet of foot and mind, not just about hits, blows, and crunches.

The game used to be for all sizes not just behemoths. It has always been physical and will remain that way but return it to the game we all love, with its true ethos.

Add legitimacy to the number of caps. Teams consist of 15 players and a bench should have just three front row replacements and one other – forward or back. It would produce 80-mimute players. Also No.9s should be given less protection at the ruck.
