Kings put to bed by Cockerill’s play-off chasers
EDINBURGH continued their good run of form in the PRO14 with a very comfortable bonus point win over the Southern Kings.
The Murrayfield triumph leaves them in Conference B play-off contention ahead of the European fortnight.
Coach Richard Cockerill said: “It was a professional showing and to get the bonus point was pleasing.”
Edinburgh took the lead in the fourth minute when winger Duhan van der Merwe broke through on the right and fed inside to full-back Dougie Fife who went over for the try.
The next try came three minutes later; a great team move taking them through the middle and winger Darcy Graham going over. Stand-off Simon Hickey converted both.
When Graham ran in try number three in the 11th minute Edinburgh were 19-0 up and coasting.
The Kings were shellshocked, but credit to them at that early stage that they did not completely capitulate.
Edinburgh remained well on top and in the closing seconds of the half some good forward drives saw loosehead Rory Sutherland going over for the fourth try and 26-0.
The one way traffic continued after the interval, Edinburgh’s fifth try coming through tighthead Simon Berghan in the 46th minute. Replacements Ally Miller, Charlie Shiel and Cameron Fenton then combined for a well-worked try in the 64th minute to make it 38-0.
