Sharpe cuts Blues open in striking win

- By ANDREW SMITH

FLUENT Huddersfield made it three wins on the bounce in an entertaining game that opened up after the break.

In a tight first period, two Chris Johnson penalties, either side of a Nick Sharpe try, gave the hosts an 11-0 advantage lead. And the Lockwood Park crowd were then treated to seven tries after the restart as the game ignited.

Sharpe was quickly on the scoresheet once more, with Field’s desire to keep the ball alive paying dividends. Great link-up play saw Sharpe ease over. A superb break from Tom Hodson on halfway opened up the Blues, a neat inside pass allowing Kian Stewart in for the try and a Johnson conversion pushing the scores on to 23-0.

The visitors hit back with a spell of sustained pressure in the Field 22, scrum-half Sam Stel-

maszek finding space to squeeze over. The home side restored the advantage, this time flanker Lewis Bradley forcing his way over from close range for the bonus try.

But the visitors proved resilient. A well-judged chip over the top from flyhalf Tom Morton saw full-back Dan Lomax dart through for the touchdown, Morton’s conversion leaving the score at 30-14.

Five minutes from time, Field claimed their fifth try through hooker Fran Entressengle. A spirited Macclesfield finale enabled wingman Miles Hall to score with the last play.
