Bridgnorth fall off the pace at summit

-

SCUNTHORPE and Newport Salop both claimed bonus point wins to remain a point apart at the top, the pair opening up a gap on third placed Bridgnorth, who were beaten 24-17 at Broadstreet.

Fifth placed Broadstreet dominated the first-half, two tries seeing them open up a 14-3 lead and although Bridgnorth responded after the break, claiming two tries of their own, Broadstreet added a third to seal victory.

Scunthorpe were always in control in their 34-27 win against relegation threatened Doncaster Phoenix.

First-half tries from Grant Elliott, Dave Garbutt, Marcus Hardy and Tom Foster had the hosts’ bonus point in the bag before half-time.

Will Robinson added a fifth after the break, although Doncaster showed heart to finish strongly, James Wright with a brace of tries, Jarman Langton adding the fourth to claim two bonus points.

Newport Salop also ran in five tries in their 35-24 win at bottom of the table

Syston, Alex Hazelock and Ricky Bailey with two tries apiece in a dominate first half, and although Syston continued their recent improvement with a second-half fightback, Chris Perry’s try sealed Newport’s win.

The top two now have a five points cushion to Bridgnorth, who slip into the chasing pack, two points above fourth placed

Luctonians, who were 3328 winners at Nuneaton, with Broadstreet a further three behind.

Twice Nuneaton took the lead with first half tries, only for Owien HarriottDavis and Guy Kirby to hit respond, before Josh Watkins gave Luctonians a 21-14 lead.

It was Nuneaton’s turn to fight back though, Huw Thomas and Theo Knight’s tries giving them the lead, but Drew Cheshire levelled a fine game once more, before Connor Deignan’s try proved decisive.

Zed Richard got the only try of the game for

Sheffield as they beat Derby 10-3, whilst at the bottom there was a huge win for Bournville, who ran in six tries to beat Burton 46-26 and move level on points with them on the edge of the bottom three.

Elsewhere, Sandbach beat Lichfield 34-29 in a closely-fought encounter.
