Mackinder at the double for fearsome Wasps

Richmond FC ..12 Wasps...38

- By BRADLEY ADAMS

GARNET Mackinder ran in two second-half tries as Wasps Ladies came from behind to record their second bonus-point victory over Richmond this season.

Mackinder was a first half replacement for Tova Derk, who went off after a heavy collision with Richmond captain Vicki Jackson.

Wasps led 12-7 at the break and Mackinder extended their advantage just after the break before adding another well-taken try later in the second half.

In between times, Amy Cokayne’s brilliant chasedown secured the try bonus point that kept her side two points ahead of GloucesterHartpury in fourth.

Wasps applied most of the early pressure but it was the hosts who took the lead, despite losing Jackson to an apparent ankle injury.

With 16 minutes gone, Wasps’ Danielle Waterman looked to move the ball right, but Jess Wooden produced a delightful interception and was unopposed on her way to the tryline.

Wooden converted but three minutes later the visitors were on the board.

Cokayne, in only her second start at hooker this season, started a move that found Mackinder who fed Lizzie Goulden on the inside to cross.

It soon got worse for the hosts - with Becky Ball in the sin bin, Wasps were awarded a penalty try with Bryony Pomfret also seeing yellow.

They were unable to capitalise on their two-player advantage, however, before running riot after the break.

The result leaves Richmond are mathematically now unable to reach the play-offs.
