Grady’s double sees Wales sign off with victory

-

France .............. 14 Wales ................ 18

LIVEWIRE centre Mason Grady was the hero for Wales in their 18-14 comeback victory against Six Nations Grand Slam-winners France.

In an adrenaline-fuelled finale to the international series for Chris Horsman’s side, Grady again showed his dependability at outside centre as he bagged two tries to rescue a victory that looked to have been beyond their grasp with the clock ticking down.

The Glantaf scholar waited for his opportunity in the closing stages, hugging the touchline and waiting for the attack to stretch the French defence.

As the forwards worked patiently burrowing their way into the French 22, Grady received the ball out wide to saunter in for a try which left their opponents scratching their heads.

It was a slam dunk try for the former Welsh age grade basketball player and one that came not a moment too soon after France full-back Enzo Lanzutti had scored ten minutes prior.

Wales were desperate to end their time in South Africa with a victory after going winless to this point in the series.

Fly-half Thomas Mathews got Wales off to a perfect start with a short range penalty.

France scored the first try after their pack worked their way towards the Wales line and lock forward Wesley Lindor exploded from the back of a maul to stretch his long arms over.

Scrum-half Nolan Le Garrec’s conversion gave his side a 7-3 lead after 14 minutes.

Grady then scored the first of his two tries, with Mathews adding the conversion and a penalty soon after.

And following a yellow card to blindside flanker Travis Huntley which opened things up for Lanzutti to score, but Grady showed his finishing class to seal the win.
