WINGER Alex Wallace scored the try to secure Sale Sharks’ first win of the season.

It followed the lead of fellow Premier 15 newcomers Exeter Chiefs, who also broke their duck against Worcster earlier this month.

Head coach Darren Lamon said: “I’m really happy for the girls. They wanted to dedicate the win to Katie Houghton’s new baby daughter and I am ecstatic for all the girls.

“We have told the girls over the last few weeks that it will click. We have had a real tough start and we learnt some lessons, but they have got something about them.

“In April we could count on one hand the amount of players we had in this squad and we knew we were going up against experienced sides with twice the squad size.

“I’m absolutely buzzing for the girls and for the staff, who’ve worked beyond hard for this day to happen.”

Sale started the match fast with flanker Scarlett Field breaking through Worcester’s line but could not offload the ball accurately with teammate Laura Perrin on for a tryscoring opportunity.

And after a Nicola Howat turnover thwarted a chance for the visitors, fly-half Katy Daley-Mclean was able to launch a counterattack through a pin-point cross-field kick for Wallace to score before the break.

Sale’s defence at the breakdown again prevented Warriors from bringing scores level, this time Perrin creating a turnover on the try-line.

Daley-Mclean made Worcester pay for ill discipline with two second-half penalties sealing the points.

Worcester kept fighting and Sioned Harries gained some hard yards as Warriors eyed a late score to earn a losing bonus-point but Sharks kept them at bay.
