Free Pacific Islanders
A DOZEN of the players involved in last weekend’s Ireland-Scotland game – more than a quarter – were born in either New Zealand or South Africa. As Pythagoras himself must have said at some point during his mathematical musings: “That’s quite a few.”
It would be nice to think that rugby’s governing bodies, committed as they clearly are to globalisation, might find it within themselves to lift the unnecessary shackles on Pacific Islands selection. Feel free to get on with it.
