Pumas pair set to switch clubs
LEICESTER Tigers fly-half Joaquin Diaz Bonilla is set to leave the club after only one season and join the Top 14.
Signed from the Jaguares this summer on a one-year contract, the Argentina international appears unlikely to remain in the Premiership beyond the current campaign.
Montpellier, Bayonne and La Rochelle are willing to enter a three-way battle for the player who kicked the Jaguares to the Super Rugby final last year.
Diaz Bonilla, 31, has experience in the Top 14, having arrived at Racing 92 last August as a medical joker.
Capped four times by the Pumas, Diaz Bonilla was signed by former Tigers head of recruitment Jan McGinity, who left the club earlier this month, but looks set for a short-lived stint at Leicester.
Meanwhile the Dragons have contacted Argentina No.8 Rodrigo Bruni to discuss interest in moving to Rodney Parade.
TRP understands director of rugby Dean Ryan is keen on the player contracted to the Jaguares, who are set to be cut adrift from the rest of the rugby world when SANZAR confirm details of a new trans-Tasman Super Rugby competition tomorrow.
Bruni, capped six times by the Pumas, caught the eye in Argentina’s historic victory over the All Blacks last month. Competition for the 27-year-old’s signature from other PRO14 sides and the Premiership is set to rival a Dragons bid.
