Edwards factor critical for France

- Jerry Birkbeck

JERRY Guscott’s column that suggested that England must score four tries against French 2nds missed out a critical factor... Shaun Edwards.

His work on a makeshift side over a couple of weeks was remarkable.

Yes, England won but the referee missed Billy Vunipola’s knock-on which led to a penalty being awarded to the hosts. George Ford’s excellent kick setting up the platform for the final try.

Deserved? I think not. England and Eddie Jones need to rethink part of their game and move away from poor kicking, all of which was swallowed up by the French back three.

We will see in the Six Nations how much has been learnt.
