Zackary seals a six-try rout for super Chiefs

- By HARRY SCOTT-MUNRO

EXETER CHIEFS clinched a six-try victory over fellow Premier 15s newcomers Sale Sharks at Sandy Park to cement their position in the middle of the standings.

After a slow start for the Chiefs and an early penalty miss from Katy Daley-Mclean, Exeter grew in confidence as the 2,000 fans in attendance got behind their team.

The first try for the Chiefs came on 14 minutes through captain Linde van der Velden, who dotted down from the base of a scrum to open up a lead. They scored again on the halfhour mark when Sachiko Katoh was driven over from a maul.

When play resumed in the second half after Exeter No.9 Taylor Black was forced off with a serious arm injury, her replacement Patricia Garcia produced a moment of precision to set up winger Garnet Mackinder from a crossfield kick for the host’s third try. The bonus point soon followed, as second row McKinley Hunt crashed over from close range.

The Chiefs performance owed much to the supreme work of the pack on the day, with a series of strong carries worked the ball into Sale territory for Alex Powell to score

Chiefs would send the paying crowd home happy with a sixth and final try right on fulltime. USA import Kate Zackary sealed the rout to send the Chiefs into the Christmas break back on form after losing their last two matches.

Sale were unable to offer anything major in response to wave upon wave of Exeter attack throughout the match , and will be disappointed that they barely fired a shot.
