Baxter proud of Exeter’s response

-

DESPITE some ‘hairy moments’ Exeter boss Rob Baxter was proud of his team’s effort.

“It wasn’t a vintage performance and there were mistakes – balls on the floor, penalties – but I give great credit to the guys for bringing it together after all that’s happened in the last two weeks against good quality opposition.

“They turned up, got on with it and have driven themselves through to get the result. There were some hairy moments but they were created by lack of time together in training.

“It wasn’t until 11.30pm Christmas Eve I was able to phone Tony Rowe with news that the latest tests had come back 100 per cent negative and we could stage the game with confidence.

“Hopefully no positives in the next round of testing on Monday and we can through a proper week of preparation for the Wasps game.”

Gloucester head coach George Skivington said: “It’s disappointing to come to the double champs and go so close. We scored two tries and should have scored a couple more save for a little inaccuracy but you can’t fault the fight.”
