Alfie’s facing 3-month layoff

-

ALFIE Barbeary will find out tomorrow if he faces three months out of action when he goes under the surgeon’s knife for an ankle injury.

The 20-yearold Wasps back row/hooker, who has scored eight tries in his last 12 appearances, will be out for at least six weeks, but it could be as many as 12 depending on what damage is found. Barbeary looked likely to be included in Eddie Jones’ Six Nations squad until he was injured playing against Sale

Sharks at the AJ Bell Stadium last weekend.

The Banbury-born former England U20 international, who joined Wasps in 2018 before having a stint on loan at Nottingham, was called into the England squad for the Autumn Nations Cup final.

Barbeary, who prefers to play in the middle of the front, has been one of the standout stars of the Premiership this season despite being played out of position in the back row.

He celebrated his first start for the club with a hat-trick from blindside flanker against Leicester Tigers in September.

He then missed out on the Premiership final defeat against Exeter Chiefs when coronavirus broke out in the Wasps camp in the build-up.
