Can’t bend rules just to suit Exeter

- Kevin Akers

WHY, for one minute, is it a good idea to change the rules of a tournament halfway through? Reading Nick Cain’s view on Exeter’s Champions Cup plight, the cynic inside me suggests Nick wants the change purely to help the Chiefs.

It could be argued Exeter have already benefited hugely from PRL changing the rules last season so that Saracens were relegated, or PRL making up rules and penalising Sale, stopping them competing in last year’s Premiership semi-final.

Now Nick wants EPRC to change their rules so Exeter don’t lose five points. Sorry, but sometimes, you have to accept that Exeter are rightly penalised and move on.

If they are the club that director of rugby Rob Baxter claims they are, they will surmount any obstacle put in their path and just deal with it, rather than bend the rules to suit them.
