Two of the in-form No.8s in England fought an intriguing battle. Simmonds has eight tries this season but was well contained, although he did show unreal speed to chase back 80m to win the touchdown after Harry Randall looked certain to score. Hughes played a good hand in Bristol’s first try, produced one memorable miss pass and ran hard. His afternoon, but not by much.
