Cameron must tread own path to the top

-

LITTLE Englanders may still be celebrating Brexit, but they’re not enjoying “Rexit” one little bit.

The news of Cameron Redpath’s declaration for Scotland provoked all manner of angst and outrage from England supporters, some of whom considered it “criminal” that Eddie Jones should have “let him slip”.

The phrase “get a life” springs to mind. Redpath may have been raised in the shires and turned out for England U20s, but he was born in Narbonne, where his father Bryan happened to be. Are diehard followers of Les Bleus aiming both barrels in the direction of Fabien Galthie? The answer to that question is a resounding “no”.

England have midfield backs coming out of their cauliflower ears and the last time anyone looked, there were only two centres in a team.

If Jones can’t find a regular starting place for a midfielder as good as Henry Slade, he is not exactly destitute on the personnel front.

Redpath is a rich talent who will, with time and a little luck, move Scotland another rung up the ladder. That’s a good thing for the international game, not a bad one.
