Ojomoh stars for Bath United
BATH United ran out 36-19 winners over Gloucester in Friday’s pre-season friendly at the Rec.
Hooker Tom Doughty got Bath off the mark, going over from a lineout catch and drive following a superb George Worboys kick to the corner.
Gloucester replied in similar fashion – Seb Blake getting his name on the scoresheet – and Reece Dunn finished off a move which started inside his own half to turn the match on its head.
An all-action first half resulted in Doughty adding his second of the contest from close range and then Max Ojomoh, right, produced a moment of magic.
The recent Premiership and
European debutant burst through a hole in the Cherry and Whites’ defence and accelerated away from several visiting defenders, dummying the lightning quick Ollie Thorley, to dot down on the stretch. Just past the halfhour mark, Doughty sealed his hat-trick. The Coventry-loanee released himself from the back of a maul and took a few strides to the line, catching the Gloucester defence unawares.
In the second half, replacement John Stewart was the beneficiary of more fine forward work as they rolled over the try-line and wing Will Butt finished off a brilliant counter-attack to extend the host’s advantage.
Gloucester had the final say on the scoreboard with Joe Howard powering over.
