Hope the Lions do John proud

-

I’D LIKE to send my condolences to the family of John Dawes after the sad news of his death.

John was a Welsh rugby legend. He will always be remembered as the only man, to date at least, to have skippered a triumphant Lions tour of New

Zealand. He also had the further distinction of both captaining and coaching Wales to Grand Slams.

Those are pretty remarkable records and ones which will struggle to be beaten.

John captained the Barbarians to their famous victory over the

All Blacks in Cardiff in 1973, playing his part in Sir Gareth Edwards’ legendary try.

He has been involved in some of Welsh rugby’s most memorable moments.

I hope the Lions do him proud against South Africa this summer.
