Six-try Quins still in the hunt for their first title

- ■ By AMY FULGHAM ■

HARLEQUINS took a big step in their pursuit of a maiden title by edging closer to a home semi-final via victory over Worcester.

The hosts crossed for six tries in all but did find themselves behind early on when Warriors wing Paige Farries intercepted a wayward pass by Beth Wilcock to score on five minutes.

No sooner had Worcester been dreaming of a third win in four before Harlequins responded. Warriors spilled the ball from the kick-off to give Quins possession and they worked through phase after phase for three minutes to move Alex Eddie within range to power over the line.

Harlequins instantly shifted momentum and were on the front-foot in attack, which moved through No.8 Tove Viksten and into the backs where Freya Aucken was found in support to cross over the line. The tempo stalled as the interval approached with the win still in the offing for Warriors at 10-7.

The pace of the game went straight back up after the break, with both sides crashing through the defences at ease.

As Worcester looked to clear their lines the quick thinking of Lucy Packer led to a charge down of Brooke Bradley’s kick to go in under the posts herself, with Emily Scott adding the extras.

That score settled Harlequins into a groove to allow Wilcock, Rosie Dobson and Scott to follow up with tries to seal the bonus point.
