West’s late try gets battling Wasps over the line

- ■ By CARL LEE

WASPS fought until the final whistle to hold out Gloucester-Hartpury and secure a bonus-point win.

Gloucester felt they had the first points on the board when Georgia Brock crossed, but she was ruled to be held up.

Both sides held firm in defence until the hosts worked the ball into the hands of their speedy winger Ellie Underwood to produce the first score of the game.

Awarded a penalty inside Wasps 22, Gloucester kept their cards close to their chest to take a quicktap through Daisy Fahey who carried into contact before the ball was reworked to the left wing for Underwood to score.

Elizabeth Crake’s try for Wasps from a lineout-maul then moved the tempo up a gear, as three tries were scored in the final ten minutes of the half.

Gloucester scrum-half Bianca Blackburn responded to the Wasps prop’s score, dummying the defence by showing to pass down the blind only to reverse inside and carry the ball to the line. Maud

Muir hit back four minutes from the interval for Wasps.

After an early penalty to Gloucester, a brilliant chipand-chase from Ellie Boatman nudged Wasps back in front.

A try for Rachel Lund left scores tied, before Hannah West’s try from a lineout-maul capped the win for the visitors.
