Four-try Botterill inspires students

University still lead the way after scoring 12 tries to thrash Royal Wootton Bassett 71-7 on home turf.

The students, who were beaten last time out, bounced back in style with man of the match James Botterill running in four tries. Other try scorers included captain Olly White, Matt Cook, Jake Murray and Arthur Thomas.

Second-placed Old Redcliffia­ns followed up their impressive win against the leaders last time out with an impressive 28-24 bonus-point win at Exmouth. A penalty try set them on the way before Donald Farmer, George Smith and Tom Williams all crossed the whitewash. The hosts, 21-3 down at the break, rallied and scored tries through Sam Plumer, Nick Headley and Dave Bargent.

Hornets, who could return to the top if they win their game in hand, remain third after a 34-21 home win against Old Centralian­s.

Fourth-placed Westonvers­ion. super-Mare continued their march up the table, the Seasiders recording a third straight victory, this time a 40-13 win against Okehampton.

The hosts scored six tries through six different scorers with Dylan Powers, Huw Morgan, Ben Tothill, Callum Kingscott, James Mackay and Josh Mynett all touching down.

Elsewhere, in the upset of the day, sixth-placed Bournemout­h were beaten by Drybrook, who climbed off the bottom of the table following their 30-24 triumph.

On their travels, Launceston were also big winners in the highest-scoring game of the day as they triumphed 59-33 against Ivybridge.

Dan Pearce, Brandon Rowley, Cam Fogden (2), Ryan Westren (2), Mitch Hawken, Shaun Crawford and Lloyd Duke all scored as the visitors made it four wins in a row.

Brixham bounced back from defeat last time out as they were 32-24 winners against Camborne in another highly-entertaini­ng game.
