Blackburn leave leaders stunned

THE shock result of the day must be the the 27-11 defeat of league leaders Otley away to Blackburn, the first time the Cross Green club’s colours have been lowered this season.

Tom Burtonwood, Tom Lavelle, Jordan Pearson and Cory Logan were try scorers for the home side with Paddy Gaffey on target with two conversion­s and a penalty. Otley scored through Elliott Morgan, with Joe Rowntree kicking two penalties.

Preston Grasshoppe­rs have now closed the gap to two points following a 0-22 win away to Billingham. Jacob Brown, Jordan Dorrington, Sam Stott and Tyler Spence were the try scorers with Alex Ward landing one conversion.

Kirkby Lonsdale picked a much-needed five points, beating Burnage 24-19 at Underley Park. Harry Huddleston with two, Dan Armstead and Stue Story were the home tryscorers with Ben Charleswor­th successful with two conversion­s. Kai Fagan, Grant Connon and George Oakley crossed for the visitors, Rhys Evans converting.

In a real arm wrestle at Marl Pits, three penalties from Lewis Allen proved enough to overcome visitors Alnwick 9-5, Peter Morelle the tryscorer for the north east outfit.

Lymm rattled in 10 tries plus a penalty try in their 67-0 win at home to Northwich. Rich McAvoy and Harry Martin with two apiece led the charge with other tries coming from Gregor Watson, Mick Stafford, Paddy Jennings, Alex Stewart, Liam Connolly and Gave Down. Tom Shard converted.

Wirral took the honours 27-21 at home to York through tries from Dan Harvey with two and Mark Williams who also kicked two conversion­s and three penalties. Shane Goulding, George Parsons and Liam Hessay, who also kicked three conversion­s, went in for the visitors.

In the final game, Macclesfie­ld beat Sandal 14-23 at Milnethorp­e Green. Sam Broster, Sam Stelmaszek, Peter Milne and Harry Oliver were tryscorers for the Cheshire side with Jake Adams and Ryan Gibbon both converted by Adams over for the home side
