Back to drawing board for Exeter

-

NORMAL service resumed after a week off for most teams. The now-former league-leaders Exeter University looked extremely rusty on their travels as they lost out 20-10 to Camborne in the shock result of the round.

Despite the hosts winning their past three, ten places and 42 points separated the sides before kick-off. The hosts scored three tries through Ben Priddey, Aden Brassington Rob Gurnett with Dom Tresidder’s conversion and Dan Rutter’s penalty completing their tally. Sam Higginson’s try and five points from fly-half Josh Barton were in reply.

The new leaders are Old Redcliffians after they romped to a convincing 4917 bonus-point win against struggling Okehampton.

In truth, it was the most predictable game of the day as the hosts have been unbeaten at Scotland Lane, while the visitors have failed to win away.

Try-scorers for the hosts included Billy Sims, Dan Thurston (2), Jonathan Cook, Tom Williams and Chris Pursall. Scorers for the visitors included Leon Horn and Rob Fishleigh.

The Hornets remain in third after a 15-10 away win over Bournemouth.

However, there was another major upset on the coast at Weston-Super-Mare, who had won five on the bounce, were beaten 16-10 by Drybrook.

Italian scrum-half Corrado Colombo scored the visitors’ only try with Tom Treherne scoring 11 points from the tee via three penalties and a conversion.

Exmouth remain in fifth following a testing 3522 bonus-point away win against Brixham.

Try scorers for the visitors included Nick Headley (2), Dave Bargent and Toby Papp. George Meadows slotted 15 points from the boot.

It was a tough day at the office for the Cornish All Blacks as Launceston’s

winning run came to an abrupt end by Old Centrallians, who put in one of the best performances of the season to win.

And finally, bottom-ofthe-table Royal Wootton Bassett put in a much better performance but were ultimately beaten 27-18 by a clinical Ivybridge side.
